HONOLULU (Hawaiinewsnow) - Two of Hawaii's most talented fighters are to go toe-to-toe in one of the biggest fights in Hawaiian MMA history.  X-1 World Events champion Falaniko "Niko" Vitale will take on former ICON champion Kala "Kolohe" Hose in the Blaisdell Arena on September 11th.

Niko (27-9, fifteen submissions) is an extremely experienced fighter who has never lost in an X-1 event yet.  He has been fighting in the MMA World for over 10 years and has won the respect throughout everyone in the Islands.  The fighter from Waipahu proudly represents the 808 Fight Factory, which is one of the toughest fight gyms in Hawaii.  He has taken on big names such as Jason "Mayhem" Miller, "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler, and Frank Trigg.  He recently defended his belt in a bout between former UFC competitor Kalib Starnes and won via submission.

His opponent, Kala (7-3, seven KO/TKOs), is known for his heavy hands and demoralizing knockout power.  In August of 2008 he obtained the ICON Middleweight title in an exciting victory over UFC fighter Phil Baroni via TKO.  Vitale will probably be Kala's toughest opponent of his career.

The event, Heroes, will also feature the second round of the X-1 World Light Heavyweight title tournament.  Hawaii's very own Poai Suganuma (10-3) will face Vitaly "The Dancing Russian" Shemetov (7-7) from Russia.  South Korea's Sang Soo Lee (14-9) will battle Gracie-trained submission specialist Roy Boughton (4-0) for another semifinal matchup.

There will also be two World Championship bouts that night.  In the 145 lb. weight class, Dave Moreno will match up against Ricky Wallace.  In the 135 lb. division, Russell Doane will challenge Bryson Hanson.

Fights will begin promptly at 7:00 PM while preliminary matches start at 5:30 PM.  Tickets go on sale on August 7th at all Ticketmaster locations.
