HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tuesday is the last day for interested candidates to file for the primary election. And a couple of big names will submit their papers.
Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will file for his run at the Governor's office. In order to run for September's primary, he will have to step down as mayor.
One man who wants to replace Hannemann in Honolulu hale is current city prosecutor Peter Carlisle. He will be filing his papers, but he will have to step down as prosecutor first.
Councilmembers Donovan Dela Cruz and Rod Tam also plan to run for mayor, but they do not have to resign their council seats because their terms are already coming to an end.
Hannemann, along with the other top candidates for governor, Neil Abercrombie and Duke Aiona, will all make appearances this week on Sunrise.
