Lava on the move again on the Big Island

KALAPANA, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) -  Pele is pointing a new finger at Kalapana. Fresh lava has oozed all the way out to the Kalapana Access Road. It reached there Saturday.

At last check, the molten lava has burned through 300 meters of asphalt. That's creating a thick plume of black smoke and attracting a curious crowd, who want to see the birth of new land up close.

The US Geological Survey says there were also active flows in kipukas, north and south of the access road, that scorched through thick vegetation.
