HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Carpenters Union endorsed Peter Carlisle for Honolulu mayor.
Union leader Ron Taketa announced the endorsement at the union's biennial convention Saturday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
Taketa said Carlisle "is a staunch supporter of the planned rail system. He is fully committed to getting it built -- from start to finish."
Carlisle thanked the union for the endorsement, and quoted the last line of the movie Casablanca, telling union delegates, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
Carlisle has been elected to four terms as Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney. Other major candidates in the mayor's race are city managing director Kirk Caldwell, city council members Donovan Dela Cruz and Rod Tam, and University of Hawaii professor Panos Prevedouros.
