HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - So far, only one neighbor island candidate plans to run for lieutenant governor. Senator Gary Hooser of Kauai, resigned from his senate seat on Friday and plans to file on Monday as a democratic candidate in the race for lieutenant governor.
Hooser served the 7th district of Kauai and Niihau for eight years and actively advocates building a sustainable Hawaii and protecting endangered species. He recently wrote the nation's first Solar Mandate Bill which became a law earlier this year. The law now requires all new homes in Hawaii to use energy efficient water heating systems.
Others candidates running include Lyla Berg, Lynn Finnegan, Jon Karamatsu, Adrienne King, and Brian Schatz.
