Police union endorses Kirk Caldwell for mayor

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's getting down to the wire for political candidates. And today, SHOPO announced who they support for the mayoral seat.

The State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officer members are backing city manager Kirk Caldwell for mayor. They say Caldwell's expertise and support of Honolulu Police Officers are just some of the reasons why he would make a good mayor.

"We as police officers we are down the middle and we are all about the candidates heart. So with all due respect to the other candidates, we feel that not only Kirk Caldwell has the experience but has heart for all of the police officers and most importantly for the people of Honolulu," said SHOPO President Tenari Maafala.

SHOPO says Caldwell has helped them with issues like pension health funds and the collective bargaining process.
