Founder of ‘THC Ministry' denied bail in marijuana case

HONOLULU (AP) - A Big Island man who founded The Hawaii Cannabis Ministry will remain in jail on major federal marijuana charges. US District Judge Alan Kay on Friday ruled that Roger Christie should not be released on bail or to a halfway house.

Matthew Winter, Christie's lawyer, argued that Christie will not be involved with marijuana or other drugs, and understands that if he did, his case would be hurt. But Kay agreed with prosecutors that Christie remains a danger to the community, noting that he allegedly continued his marijuana ministry after federal authorities in March searched his home and office.

The 61-year-old Christie is accused of leading a major cannabis growing, processing and distribution ring. He has pleaded not guilty.
