KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Likelike Highway was shut down for several hours Sunday after an early morning car crash. It happened just before 5:30 a.m. outside the Wilson tunnel headed Kaneohe bound.
Traffic investigators say a 44-year-old man was speeding when he lost control of the van he was driving, struck a cement barrier as well as the tunnel wall several times, before coming to a stop.
In the process, he also rear-ended a pick up truck. The driver was not injured.
The man driving the van was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
He was not wearing a seatbelt.
