HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian says it will launch the new service on October 31. It adds 100,00 seats a year to Japan-Hawaii air capacity. But figure double that, since ANA plans a daily Haneda flight, too. Hawaiian says its Tokyo flight to Honolulu will be a redeye, taking off shortly before midnight. Westbound departure, early evening.

Thousands of people are flying to Honolulu this week, the Alzheimer's Association 2010 International Conference this weekend will draw 5,500 delegates and exhibitors to the Hawaii Convention Center.

The Convention Center counted 1,800 attendees at the Photovoltaic Specialists' Conference in late June. It says the meeting generated visitor spending above $8 million.

Also coming up this weekend is the Sandy Beach Pro, a bodyboarding competition Saturday and Sunday at Sandy Beach. The corporate sponsor is Dave & Buster's.

Island Insurance has a new vice president, Lyle Harada has been put in charge of the company's claims division. He had been a partner in Kawashima Lorussa & Harada, a law firm specializing in insurance defense.
