HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two major unions are making their voices heard in the political arena. The Teamsters announced their support for Hannemann Friday. Hawaii Teamsters Local 996 president Ron Kozuma made the announcement at union headquarters. He cited Hannemann's ability to get things done as one of the reasons for the endorsement.
"In certain positions, it's easy to say things, do things, when you're not held accountable for your actions. In the mayor's case, the buck stops here and the mayor has that experience" said Kozuma,
The Teamsters represent more than 6,000 members in transportation, freight and other industries.
Also Friday, the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO) released its political endorsement list. Among those they are supporting Colleen Hanabusa for Congress, Brian Schatz for lieutenant governor and Richard Turbin for Honolulu city councilmember. So far, SHOPO has not made up its mind on a candidate for Honolulu mayor.
