PEARL CITY (HawaiiNewsNow) - A brushfire that was racing toward the H-2 freeway seems to have backed off, but not before causing a headache for commuters Thursday night in Central Oahu. The flames erupted about 9:00 PM near the Pearl City Industrial Center.
Authorities closed the north-bound lanes of the H-2 just after the split from the H-1 for a while, causing big backups on the H-1 Ewa bound. The flames were so big and moving so fast at one point firefighters were calling for multiple engines and tankers from around the region.
Strong trade winds fanned the flames, but crews got the blaze under control about 9:30 PM. There were no reports of injuries or structure damage.
