HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A major Hawaii labor union is backing Neil Abercrombie's run for governor.
Local 5 announced Tuesday it has chosen to back the former congressman in his bid to become our next governor.
Local 5 represents nearly 11,000 hotel and health care workers in Hawaii.
The union says Abercrombie is a proven leader and fights for all the blue collar workers in the state.
"Neil has supported all the activities of all of Hawaii's working people and I think that shows the importance of his campaign and also Local 5's campaign, which is the working people of Hawaii," Local 5 worker Mason Chung said.
This endorsement comes two weeks after the Hawaii Hotel and Lodging Association endorsed Abercrombie's rival for the democratic nomination, Mayor Mufi Hannemann.
