Woman dies in Big Island head-on collision

NAALEHU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 55-year-old Ocean View woman died Sunday evening when the car she was driving was hit head-on on Kamaoa Road near the Discovery Bay Golf course. Police say Marena L. Bohol was killed when her Toyota sedan was struck by a Ford pick-up truck driven by a 22-year-old Naalehu woman. The 22-year-old and her passenger, a 55-year-old woman also from Naalehu were taken to Kona Community hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

Reports indicate that the Ford truck was traveling east crossed the center line and collided with Bohol's car which was heading in the opposite direction just before 6:45 PM. Bohol died at the scene.

Police say that speed was a factor in the accident, but it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. A negligent homicide investigation has been opened. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the victim's exact cause of death.

Police ask that anyone with information about this crash call Officer Larry Flowers at 326-4646, extension 229. This is the 18th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year compared with 11 at this time last year.
