HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawaii's football schedule will go on as planned. Thursday, the NCAA announced, it will allow the University of Southern California's season-opener against UH.
There was talk that the September 2 game at Aloha Stadium would have to be canceled, because of the sanctions against USC for improper benefits for Heisman trophy winner Reggie Bush in 2004. One of the penalties, in addition to the loss of scholarships and some wins from that season, would have prevented USC from playing a 13th game in the 2010, 2011 seasons.
An NCAA spokesperson says it's delaying that penalty for one year, after considering that the game at Aloha Stadium has been scheduled for at least five years, is scheduled to be shown in ESPN, and that many fans had already made travel arrangements.
