NUUANU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Manoa Cup has been around for 102 years, and in all that time no female golfer, not even two time participant Michelle Wie, has advanced past the second round ... until now.

Wednesday 16 year old Alina Ching defeated Gary Petersmeyer 5 and 4 to reach the third round.

Ching faces defending champion TJ Kua Thursday.  Kua beat Brad Shigezawa 2 up Tuesday.

The Manoa Cup is played at Oahu Country Club in Nuuanu.  It serves as the state amateur match play championship.

The field has been reduced from 64 golfers in the first round to just 16 golfers in the third round.

Others still in the hunt include former champions Brandan Kop and Jonathan Ota, and David Fink who fired the low round in qualifying on Monday (-6, 65).
