Critical: Local Gallery Owner Shot in Tremont Fights for Life

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland Police in the Second District continue to investigate a robbery that ended in the shooting of a local artist.

Officers were called to W. 3rd and Literary Avenue for a male shot around 12:35 a.m. Upon arrival on scene zone car personnel were advised that the victim had been picked up by EMS and transported to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

The victim was identified as 58-year-old Jeffrey Chiplis.

Chiplis owns an art gallery in the Tremont area. Sunday, Chiplis was listed in critical condition.

While on scene the officers received information that two young hispanic males attempted to rob Chiplis and when Chiplis did not comply, he was shot in the lower back by one of the males. 

After shooting the victim the males fled the scene.

There are no arrest at this time. The Cleveland Division of Police is asking that anyone with information in connect with this incident please contact the Second District Detective Bureau at (216) 623-5218.
