HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The fifth annual Aloha International Piano Festival starts tomorrow at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu. It's a weeklong event with piano recitals, workshops and competitions. Pianist Lisa Nakamichi founded the event in 2006 and will be joined by pianists Sara Davis Buechner, Noriko Uenaka, Sean Botkin and Norman Krieger in offering masterclasses and free performances.
Each year, AIPF strives to provide access to the arts and music education for Hawaii's children, teachers and families who could not otherwise travel to the mainland to experience similar festivals. Students can also elect to participate in masterclasses and workshops without entering the competitions. The competitions are for pianists ranging in age from five to 25.
