HONOLULU (AP) - A nine-foot snake has been turned in under the state's amnesty law. The Department of Agriculture announced Thursday that the reticulated python that had been kept in a garage in Waianae is being held at the Plant Quarantine Branch. The female snake will be shipped to a reptile farm on the mainland.
The department says the owner initially tried to donate the snake to the Honolulu Zoo. Reptile handlers from the zoo and two department inspectors took possession of the snake Saturday. Under the state's amnesty law, the owner won't face prosecution or fines for possession of an illegal animal.
