HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – UPDATE: police arrested Monica Wilhelm on the morning of June 9.
September 30, 2009. A 59-year-old man driving on Kukui street near Nuuanu Avenue was flagged down by a woman who asked for a ride to the store. He agreed, and while they were driving she climbed into the back seat.
"He continued the conversation with her, and as they approached Nuuanu and Vineyard she demanded that he stop the car, got out and started running. When he turned to the backseat, noticed that his bag was open and items were missing from the bag" said Sgt. Kim Buffett of CrimeStoppers.
The victim found her near the YMCA and unsuccessfully tried to chase her.
"During the chase she had dropped a white bag that contained her identification and several other items. She was identified and located on December 20, 2009 on Kukui Street and River Street and placed under arrest."
Before her arrest, Monica Wilhelm was wanted for a $20,000 felony contempt warrant and a $20,000 Department of Public Safety warrant.
"Wilhelm failed to appear for sentencing on May 5, 2010 for theft in the second degree, promoting dangerous drugs in the third, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia… she does have 12 prior convictions and they're for drugs and theft."
