KAPOLEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A domestic dispute early Saturday morning turned into a barricade situation in Kapolei.  Honolulu Police say there was a dispute between a man and a woman at about 12:30 a.m. at the Pae Ko Gardens condominiums.  Resident Cameron Olson couldn't understand what was happening at first.  "My fiance and I were watching Sixth Sense and we thought we heard surround sound with the banging, then my mother-in-law knocked on the door and told us we needed to leave because there was a gun" he said.

The suspect, 33-year old Scheyenn Melendez then barricaded himself in the house after letting the woman and her two children go.  Crisis negotiators were called to the scene to help diffuse the situation.

Another neighbor, Gretchen Sailer was shocked at all of the activity outside of her window she said, "I didn't realize the situation was as serious, but wow it was a lot of swat, a lot of serious looking professionals coming and just taking over."

Negotiators worked all night to talk the gunman out of the situation.  Just after 10:00 a.m. the man surrendered to police without incident.

During the night's ordeal, nearly 30 residents were evacuated and held in the complex recreation center.  The American Red Cross provided them with blankets, food and water.
