KILAUEA, Kauai (HawaiiNewsNow) – One woman is dead and two men were seriously injured after a head-on collision on Kuhio Highway late Tuesday afternoon. 70-year old Gloria Agcaoili of Koloa died when a car she was a passenger in was hit by a car driven by a 47-year-old visitor from New Jersey.
It happened near mile marker 24 in Kilauea. Police say at 5:17 PM, the car driven by the New Jersey man crossed the center line and collided with the vehicle that Agcaoili was riding in. The driver of that vehicle, a 38-year-old Koloa man was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
The New Jersey man was also hospitalized in serious condition. Officials said that neither of the drivers sustained life-threatening injuries.
Police closed lanes in both directions until about 6:30 PM. The highway was completely reopened just after 8:00 PM.
There is no word yet on whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Agcaoili is the sixth person to die in a traffic accident of Kauai this year.
