HILO, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – Big Island fire officials say that two people were rescued Monday after their catamaran turned over. The incident happened about five miles off Papaikou.
The pair were hanging on the to the hull of the capsized boat when they were spotted by the fire department's helicopter. They were picked up by a rescue boat and taken to Hilo Harbor. They did not suffer any injuries in the capsizing.
The boat, valued at about $5,000, was deemed unsalvageable by fire officials.
