ALA MOANA (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than 40,000 people are expected to pack the beach here at Magic Island. Folks have already staked out the best spots, along the shoreline and close to the stage. On the jumbotron, prayers submitted from all over the world will be displayed.
Last year, there were about 1,000 of them. That plus prayers and poems written on more than 2,000 lanterns, will be released into the ocean tonight.
"Lost my mother a few years ago. So after the performance, we will be sending out a lantern on behalf of me and my wife," Entertainer Keola Beamer said.
More on the Lantern Ceremony tonight at 10.
