St. Joseph, MO (HawaiiNewsNow) – At the NCAA Division II Softball College World Series, HPU defeated Metro State University, 7-2, to advance to the National Title game to be played tomorrow, May 31, versus Valdosta State University. Sherise Musquiz (33-3) earned the win and added two hits, one run, and three RBI to help her own cause.
Caira Pires and Nicole Morrow each recorded three hits, with Chante Tesoro and Ciera Senas each adding two hits. Musquiz pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Jannessa Tesone led Metro (53-6) with two hits and two runs. Christie Robinson (30-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing five earned runs on 14 hits in six innings of work.
The Sea Warriors (49-8) struck first with a run in the first inning, but Metro State took the lead in the third inning on a two-RBI base hit by Tesone. HPU recaptured the lead just one inning later, as Maile Kim (1 H, 1 RBI) and Musquiz collected RBIs to give their team a 3-2 lead.
HPU put the game away in the sixth inning, taking advantage of three fielding errors by Metro State to push to a 7-2 lead.
The Sea Warriors are one win away from their first NCAA National Championship, and would become the first 50-win team in program history.
Start time with Valdosta State is set at 2:07 p.m. Central Time, and will be broadcasted live on CBS College Sports (Oceanic Digital Cable Channel 247).
