ST. JOSEPH, MO (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Pacific University softball moved to within a victory of winning the NCAA Division II softball championship when it beat Angelo State University 1-0 in 10 innings on Friday.
Starting pitcher Sherise Musquiz went the distance giving up just six hits while earning a complete game shut-out.
The Sea Warriors scored the winning run in the top of the tenth when Caira Pires stole second base. The Angelo catcher tried to throw Pires out at second, but the Rams shortstop mishandled the throw and the ball rolled out into center field allowing Kozy Toriano to score from third base.
HPU will play in the title game Sunday against an undecided opponent. If the Sea Warriors lose that game, they'll play the same opponent a second time in a winner take all game.
