HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Mechanical problems led to a diverted flight and five hours of delays at the Honolulu airport as about 150 frustrated passengers on United flight 9788 waited to take off.
They left Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon on a direct flight to Lihue, but their plane had to land in Honolulu because of a hydraulic system problem. They stayed overnight at a hotel and expected to leave again at about 7:00 AM but didn't take off until just after noon.
Hawaii News Now's Dan Cooke spoke with passenger Donna Goldsmith via phone as they waited to take off.
"We're all kind of calm but we're just getting irritated because this is the second day of our vacation and we have no idea what we're going to be doing" said Goldsmith.
United says passengers were allowed to get off the plane while waiting to take off Thursday morning.
