MESA, AZ (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow baseball team was trailing Louisiana Tech by a run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning when second baseman Kolten Wong hit a two run walk-off home run propelling U.H. Into the winner's bracket of the Western Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday.
It was the second dramatic Wong hit in the game. With Hawaii trailing 6-4 in the 8th inning, Wong blasted a two-run homer over the fence in Hohokam Stadium.
The Bulldogs took a 7-6 lead in the top of the tenth giving Wong the opportunity to play hero in the bottom of the tenth.
Wong ended the game 2-for-6 with the two homers and four RBI. Greg Garcia added a 2-for-4 game with two runs and a triple while Sean Montplaisir went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run and two doubles. Matt Roquemore was 1-for-5 with two RBI and two runs with Pi'ikea Kitamura and Collin Bennett both added two-hit games.
Lenny Linsky (3-0) got the win, allowing one earned run in 2.2 innings. Josh Slaats pitched well for 5.2 innings, allowing only three unearned runs with six strikeouts in the no-decision.
Hawaii will play New Mexico State in the winner's bracket Thursday, 1 p.m. (HST).
