Honolulu Police officer waives first court appearance

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The attorney for a Honolulu police officer accused of hitting a woman with his car appeared on his behalf in District Court Monday. Boyd Kamikawa is charged with driving under the influence.

Court documents show that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. The 23-year veteran also failed parts of the sobriety test.

Investigators say Kamikawa hit a 61-year-old woman in a crosswalk in Chinatown on the morning of April 24. The woman was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Kamikawa has had his police powers taken away and will not be able to drive because his license was revoked.
