KAWAIHAE, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A brush fire on the Big Island has forced the closure of Highway 270 in Kawaihae Saturday.
A civil defense spokesperson says the fire started around 10:30 Saturday morning near the 12-mile marker.
At last check, more than 300 acres has burned so far. Firefighters are on scene trying to get a handle on the fire.
Traffic is being re-routed in the area. No structures are threatened at this time and no one has been injured.
