PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine softball team won it's opening game in the NCAA Tournament Regional at Stanford University Friday.
The Wahine beat UC Davis 10-2. The game was stopped in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule.
UH ace Stephanie Ricketts earned the victory giving up just two earned runs on five hits.
Outfielder Alex Aguirre drove in four runs for Hawaii. Firstbaseman Amanda Taualii hit her 17th home run of the year. Hawaii now as an NCAA record 142 home runs this season.
UH will play Stanford on Saturday. The Cardinal defeated Texas Tech 5-4 in their first round game Friday.
Teams have to lose twice to be eliminated from the regional. The team that survives will advance to a Super Regional, the equivalent of basketball's Sweet 16.
