MANOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Five members of the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine softball team have been named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-West Region team.
Third baseman Melissa Gonzalez, designated player Jenna Rodriguez, and outfielder Kelly Majam made the first team. Pitcher Stephanie Ricketts and shortstop Jessica Iwata made the second team.
The accolades came on the eve of Hawaii's first game in the NCAA Tournament.
Hawaii, Stanford, UC Davis, and Texas Tech are in the regional. Only one of them will advance to the next stage ... a super regional which is the equivalent of basketball's sweet sixteen.
The Wahine open play in the regional against UC Davis at 12 noon Hawaii time Friday.
