KAPOLEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a nearly eight-month delay, it could be only a few more days before garbage is shipped to Washington state.

The US Department of Agriculture says Hawaiian Waste Systems could soon get the final OK. The permitting process has caused numerous delays, leaving 20,000 tons of trash sitting at Campbell Industrial Park.

Hawaiian Waste Systems has been fined by the state and could lose its contract if the garbage isn't gone by September.
