Cockfighting suspects charged with animal cruelty

NANAKULI (HawaiiNewsNow) - We're getting our first look at four men arrested at a Nanakuli cockfight this past weekend. The men range in age from 18 to 44 and are charged with animal cruelty.

Police say more than 500 people were at the fight, and the ring even had its own security guards. Officers arrived after neighbors complained.

Arrested were:

Loreto Arzaga Jr., 35, of Waimalu released on $3,000 bond

Joseph Lai, 44, of Honolulu released on $2,000 bond

Frank Lavatai, 18, of Waianae released on $2,000 bond

Patrick Takahashi, 30, of Waipahu released on $3,000 bond

Arzaga and Takahashi were charged with possession of an illegal gaff.
