MANOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii Rainbow baseball team capped an exciting double header sweep of New Mexico State when outfielder Jeffrey Van Doornum rocked a solo home run over the fence in left field in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The game was scheduled to go seven innings because it was the second game of a double header, but it went to an eighth inning because the teams were tied 1-1 after seven innings.
Van Doornum's homer set off a wild celebration at Les Murakami Stadium.
Matt Sisto picked up the win for Hawaii giving up just two hits over 5.2 innings while striking out six Aggie batters.
UH won the first game of the twin-bill 7-3. Hawaii starter Sam Spangler struck out 13 Aggie batters while giving up just two runs in 5.2 innings.
Hawaii and New Mexico State play the fourth and final game of their four game set at 1 p.m. Sunday. It will be the final home game for seven Hawaii seniors.
