Japanese visitor arrested for carrying stun gun into airport

Hiroki Suzuki Hiroki Suzuki

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Officials with the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) arrested a Japanese man Friday morning after he attempted to carry a stun gun onto a Tokyo-bound flight. Authorities say 29-year-old Hiroki Suzuki had placed the weapon into his carry-on bag before attempting to go through security at Honolulu International Airport.

The stun gun confiscated was the type that has to be pressed against a person to deliver its charge. There is no indication that Suzuki was intending to use the device on the flight.

Suzuki made his initial court appearance before a federal magistrate Friday afternoon and was released on a $25,000 signature bond. His next court appearance is on May 28. If convicted of carrying a weapon onto an aircraft, Suzuki could face a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
