Hauula man killed in Punaluu motorcycle crash

PUNALUU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Honolulu medical examiner's office has identified the victim in a deadly motorcycle crash Thursday night. 29-year-old Daniel M. Kapu of Hauula was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle, collided with a street sign and was thrown from the bike.

The crash happened just before 10:00 PM Thursday night on Kamehameha Highway near the Ching Store in Punaluu. Kapu was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

"Right now we're looking at speed. What's under investigation is alcohol," Honolulu Police Department Lt. David Nilsen said.

His family lives nearby and several relatives showed up at the site looking for answers.
