KAPOLEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - On Oahu's Leeward side animal rescuers saved the lives of 25 dogs abandoned in a condemned home. Habitat for Humanity found the 19 puppies and six adult poi dogs in a house in the Nanakuli-Waianae area on Wednesday.
The animals were starving and emaciated. The SPCA took the dogs to the Kalaeloa shelter in Kapolei.
The property's owners did not know the animals were there and were going to demolish the home. They believe the dogs belonged to homeless people.
Once they recover, the poi dogs will be up for adoption. Call the Kalaeloa shelter at 754-1519 for details.
