The naval facilities engineering command at Pearl has awarded a whopping a four-billion-dollars' worth of contracts to several construction companies to do work on Guam. Dick Pacific and Kiewit Construction are among the Hawaii contractors getting a piece of this business.
Maui Land & Pineapple lost less than $3 million in the first quarter. It zeroed out medical benefits to white collar retirees, sold off some land, and leased other Kapalua properties to third parties. The pineapple operation was partially picked up by a new division of Ulupalakua Ranch.
General Growth properties lost $78 million in the first quarter, but that was a similar story. A year earlier the number two U.S. mall owner lost five times that much. General Growth still generates almost a million dollars in revenue per day.
