Man killed in Windward moped crash identified

KAHALUU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The medical examiner's office has identified a man who died after being hurt Saturday in a moped crash on Oahu's windward side. Police say 32-year-old Shawn Kalima of Kaneohe was traveling south on Kahekili Highway on a moped when he attempted to make a u-turn near the intersection with Ahuimanu Road. That's when a car collided traveling north on Kahekili collided with him and he was thrown from the bike.

He was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. He died Sunday morning. The 32-year old female driver of the car and her 15-year old passenger were not hurt.

Speed and alcohol are not apparent factors in the crash. Kalima was not wearing a helmet.
