NAPOOPOO, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 23-year-old Captain Cook woman died late Tuesday after swimming off Keei Beach on the west side of the Big Island. Police have identified the victim as Karly A. Kojimoto.
Just after 6:00 PM witnesses called 911 after they saw Kojimoto in distress and heard her calling for help. A man swam out to help and he noticed that she was having difficulty breathing. He helped her to shore, where another woman performed CPR until firefighters arrived.
When fire crews arrived, they found Kojimoto to be unresponsive. She was transported to Kona Community Hospital where she later died. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death
