HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The US Coast Guard reported Friday that a large dead whale was spotted in waters off Kaena Point. Several tiger sharks were observed feeding on the carcass.
The whale was last seen about 14 miles west of Kaena Point, off Oahu's northwestern side. Prevailing ocean currents in the channel are southwesterly, so experts do not expect the carcass to float to shore in the islands.
Mariners should take caution when they are in the area. Officials will continue to monitor the situation.
