One injured, one arrested in scuffle at State Capitol

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – State sheriffs arrested one man and other man went to the hospital with a bloody nose after a scuffle at the Hawaii State Capitol Thursday morning. The conflict began when protestors representing the Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church (HCSSC) interrupted the invocation in the Senate chamber.

The sergeant of arms asked the protestors to leave. When they refused state sheriffs were called in. Mitch Kahle, the president of HCSSC was forcibly removed and taken into custody.

Another protestor, Kevin Hughes, claimed he was struck in the face. He took himself to the hospital with a bloody nose. Hughes told Hawaii News Now that he also suffered bruised ribs and had his camera broken in the incident.

Kahle was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and interrupting government process. His bail was set at $300.
