Waipahu man critically injured in Ewa pedestrian accident

EWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Waipahu man remains in critical condition after he was struck by an SUV Tuesday night. The crash happened on Fort Weaver Road near Hawaii Medical Center West at around 7:40 PM.

Police say the 69-year-old victim was crossing the street, and was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by the SUV. He suffered head injuries and was transported to Queens Medical Center. Police do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor with the pedestrian.

The driver of the SUV, a 49-year-old man from Ewa Beach indicated the pedestrian suddenly appeared in the roadway and he did not have time to stop. Police say that speed, alcohol and drugs were not a factor with regards to the driver, who was not injured.
