MANOA (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Saturday night the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team will host Pepperdine in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball playoffs.
It will be the first time since 2006 Hawaii has hosted an MPSF playoff match.
Tickets are still available. The match will be televised live on K-5.
The Warriors are ranked 4th in the country. The Waves are ranked 5th. The two split a two-match series at Pepperdine during the regular season. The waves swept the Warriors the first night. Hawaii returned the favor the next night.
"We're going to have to slow them down. I mean they hit for a high percentage. They've got a lot of guys who can score, so defensively we're going to have to be good and our serving kind of triggers our defense, so that's the formula we used up there when we beat them a few weeks ago and hopefully we can do it again," said Hawaii Head Coach Charlie Wade.
"We know if we are playing at a high level it's going to be a tough match, regardless. Even if we're playing at our best it's going to be a tough match," outside hitter Joshua Walker told Hawaii News Now.
"We just got to play our game and when we play our game the way we know it, I don't think Pepperdine can stop us," said a confident Nejc Zemljak, Hawaii's setter.
The match starts at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
