Howzit Howard: Milk, Marriott, Japan and the Waimea Consort

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A legislative conference committee has finalized a bill to require new labeling on milk...either the date of packaging or the date of final pasteurization. The bill appears aimed at Meadow Gold, which gets most of its milk from California. Two Big Island dairies hope to expand and sell local milk to other islands.

New this morning from Washington...Marriott International has swung to a first quarter profit of $83 million. A year ago, it lost $23 million. Marriott says vacation bookings are rising, though customers are still bargain-hunting.

JTB...The Japan Travel Bureau. Recently moved its trolley base to the Nordstrom parking garage. Now Ala Moana Center reports one of its new tenants is JTB USA, which dominates Japan's tour business and handles about 300,000 Hawaii visitors annually.

The Waimea Consort is doing a concert program of French vocal music from Dufay and De Lassus to Saint-Saens and Poulenc. It's Saturday night at Sacred Heart Church in Hawi, and again Sunday afternoon at the Academy Chapel in Waimea/Kamuela. Admission is free.
