KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Sherise Musquiz did not attend Hawaii Pacific University to play softball. But when the coaches heard she could pitch, they gave her a look.
"Sherise was already enrolled in HPU attending school and a friend of ours from the mainland called and said you got a kid there, she's pitched here, she's under the radar because she didn't play summer ball. You gotta take a look at her," said HPU coach Bryan Nakasone.
Now Musquiz is the ace of the staff.
She has tied the school record for career victories (77) and wins in a season (23). This weekend she can break both records when the Sea Warriors play a weekend series against Chaminade at Okita Field on HPU Kaneohe campus.
"I don't think it's an individual accomplishment. It is an honor to put my name up there, but I don't think I was the reason why. The team helped me on offense and defense," she told Hawaii News Now.
