BIG ISLAND, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A building came to life on the Big Island this weekend. The Hawaii Preparatory Academy celebrated the opening of its new energy lab. The school facility offers new ways for students to learn about sustainability. Students also planted trees, and toured the buildings features, but the first job is to work out the kinks in the building. Then when school starts again in the fall, the faculty wants every student to feel a sense of belonging with the buildings..

"Everybody should have one aspect or piece of this facility or vision that they really resonate with and that's my goal over the next year, inclusion to get people to feel like this is home.."

The building is a first of its kind for a school in Hawaii. Its more than 6,000 square feet and cost 6.3 million dollars to build.
