Maui officials looking for ideas on Wailuku redevelopment

WAILUKU, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui County officials are asking Maui residents to complete a short online survey expressing their opinions and preferences regarding a redevelopment plan for the town of Wailuku. They are seeking to evolve Wailuku into a "downtown core of commerce, culture and entertainment."

Their goal is to create a plan that helps to retain and expand high-quality developments and increase investment in the community. The area under study is roughly defined by the Market Street business corridor from Main Street through Happy Valley and the surrounding commercial blocks.

The county has brought in Progressive Urban Management Associates, a Denver-based community development consulting firm, to coordinate the plan. Funding for the project is coming from federal and county sources as well as through private donors.

The deadline to complete the online survey is May 7.
