HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In just over two weeks, one lucky person will win a brand new home on Oahu, courtesy of the Forbes Foundation. For just a $25 donation, you get a chance to win a free new home.
This week, the foundation is giving away a new $3000 computer. You can get a chance to win the computer the same way that you try for the new house, by visiting the Forbes Foundation of Hawaii's web site and making a donation. The computer will be given away Monday, April 19.
The location of the house is not being disclosed until late April. We do know it is not on Oahu's Leeward or Windward coasts or on the North Shore. It is a new four-bedroom home with central AC and solar water heating worth over $600,000. Donations to the foundation will pay for the home and benefit island charities.
"I'm calling on the residents of Hawaii to rally around, to encourage people to help the people that need the help, to pay for the house and to give generously to the community. I've invited the Rotary Club and the Kidney Foundation of Hawaii in to help make the decisions of how the funds are to be used" said Suzan Forbes, president of the Forbes Foundation of Hawaii.
The response from the community has been overwhelming.
"At first they were concerned that it was a scam. They called everybody to find out if it was real. It's absolutely real, and I'm going to ask everyone to please call your family and friends to just go online and donate once."
Forbes says that even if you win one of the additional prizes, such as the computer, you are still eligible to win the house. A random computer drawing will decide the winner.
