HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Local Five says the Hogan family of Hawaiian Hotels & Resorts has failed to make payments into a trust fund to keep medical benefits going to 145 employees of the Royal Kona Resort. So the union has called a strike vote for six this evening at the King Kamehameha Hotel in Kailua-Kona.
Hawaii state tax revenues have finally turned higher, but with an asterisk. They would still be down were it not for the decision not to pay tax refunds until July. If you count them as if they were paid normally, revenues would be down 1.6 percent, which is still better than things were before.
Central Pacific Bank has closed two of its four California loan offices and two Honolulu branches on Bethel Street and on Kapiolani Boulevard. All of the actions were previously announced.
The dollar-a-barrel tax on oil did clear both houses of the state legislature. But they also voted to block a streamlining of social service claims, which saves a lot of jobs but leaves more budget gap to close.
